Code of Conduct

Royal City Aerials is an inclusive and affirming establishment. We strive to create a safe space for everyone, and welcome members of all ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, statuses, physical appearance, and abilities. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bigoted behaviour and harassment. Should you experience any issues or feel uncomfortable in class, please let your instructor know immediately or email us at royalcityaerials@gmail.com.

Students are expected to always treat teachers and other participants with respect, including speaking kindly and respectfully to others at all times. Students must not engage in disruptive behaviour such as arriving late, staying beyond the allotted class time, speaking over or ignoring the instructor, commenting on others’ bodies, soliciting personal or business services, or not following the given curriculum.

If a student violates any of the policies outlined on this page, the following disciplinary actions may apply:

  • First complaint: verbal warning and the student may be asked to leave the class with no refund issued;
  • Second complaint: written notice and the student will be asked to leave the class with no refund issued;
  • Third complaint or repeated unacceptable behavior: we will permanently refuse service to the student.

Depending on violation severity, management reserves the right to move more quickly through these steps, including directly to dismissal from the studio.

Arrivals

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your class starts. If you arrive early, please wait in the hallway or change room until your start time. If you need to speak to other students while another class is running, please do so quietly or outside of the studio to avoid disruption.

If you arrive after class has started, please do so quietly and with as little disruption to other students as possible. If you are more than 15 minutes late, admittance is at the instructor’s discretion; if denied entry, you will not receive a refund. Warm-up is a critical part of our curriculum and is used to prevent injury.

Group Classes

All classes are group classes and students are required to follow the instructors’ directions. Modifications will be offered if needed, but it is expected that all students in class work on the same moves and routines. Our studio follows a structured and progressive curriculum that will help students succeed in every aspect of pole.

Classes are standardized within a calendar week: if you come to the same class more than once a week, you will be working on the same moves.

Please do not attempt moves that you have not been instructed on and only saw on social media. Do not teach or spot other students unless an instructor asks you to do so.

Students are expected to clean their poles before and after class. This helps to limit the risk of injury and maintain the condition of the equipment.

Filming and Social Media

While taking notes, progress photos, and videos can be beneficial for your pole or aerial journey, it is essential to observe the following guidelines:

  • Be considerate of other individuals in the studio who may not want to be photographed or recorded. If someone is in the background of your photo or video, ask for their permission before proceeding or change the angle. If you are in the background of someone else’s video and don’t wish to be, speak to that student or your instructor – we’ve got your back!
  • We encourage you to post photos/videos of yourself on social media, but please adhere to social media etiquette. If possible, tag the studio’s social media accounts, and do not tag others in your photographs without their consent. If it is absolutely impossible not to have others in your video, blur them out before posting.
  • Please be mindful of any conversations or sounds in the background when recording with sound. Check the audio of your videos before posting on social media.
  • Before taking a video of the instructor for reference or personal use, please ask for their permission. Recording entire classes or livestreaming is strictly prohibited.
  • If an instructor wishes to film and post a video of the class on social media, they will ask for your consent. If you prefer not to be a part of the filming process, please let the instructor know and feel free to step to the side or offer to be the videographer. We value everyone’s decisions and will respect them, no questions asked.

Advancement through Class Levels

To “graduate” from your current class level, you must be comfortable with the checklist moves and obtain instructor approval. The checklist is posted at the studio. Let your instructor know that you are interested in moving up, and they will give you an assessment and feedback on whether you are ready or not. New students with pole experience can request an assessment from their instructor or set up a time by emailing royalcityaerials@gmail.com.

Attire

No jewelry may be worn during pole classes, especially rings, bracelets, and necklaces. This is for your own safety and to preserve the condition of the equipment. Appropriate clothing for each class type is listed on our FAQ page.

During your first class, we allow the use of the studio’s grip aids to all participants; however, buying your own is appreciated if you plan to attend more classes.

These policies are subject to change without notice.
